What are CFCs?
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are man-made compounds once widely used in refrigerators, aerosol sprays, and foam-blowing agents. They are non-toxic and non-flammable, but extremely harmful to the ozone layer.
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are man-made compounds once widely used in refrigerators, aerosol sprays, and foam-blowing agents. They are non-toxic and non-flammable, but extremely harmful to the ozone layer.
CFCs rise to the stratosphere and release chlorine atoms that break down ozone molecules. This leads to thinning of the ozone layer, which protects us from harmful UV radiation.
Modern replacements like HFCs (Hydrofluorocarbons) are used today. Though not perfect, they do not deplete ozone.
